On October 16, Lenovo announced a series of AI products, technologies and solutions, including personal agent AI NOW, at Tech World 2024. As one of the most important manufacturers in the global PC industry, Lenovo has maintained long-term close cooperation with the chip industry chain represented by AMD, Intel and Qualcomm. At the event, Intel CEO Pat Kissinger, AMD Chairman and CEO Su Zifeng and Nvidia founder and CEO Huang Renxun came to the "platform" and released important cooperation agreements on the spot. Among them, Intel and AMD announced the establishment of X86 development ecological alliance to face the increasingly powerful challenges of the ARM camp; Nvidia and Lenovo announced a strategic collaboration on hybrid AI advantage sets.
The development of AI is having an increasingly profound impact on the traditional PC market power pattern, the "Win-Tel" alliance known to the public has become a past tense, WindowsonARM has become an emerging force that cannot be ignored, and the major chip giants are increasingly competing for manufacturers represented by Lenovo.
At the Lenovo conference, Yang Yuanqing bluntly said that "AI is not a bubble", and IT is affecting the entire IT industry. This gathering of the "Big Three" may be just the beginning.
Rare tie-up between intel and AMD
At the conference site, to everyone's surprise, intel and AMD, two longtime rivals, jointly announced an important cooperation plan.
Intel and AMD will formally form the X86 Ecosystem Advisory Group, which aims to simplify software development, ensure interoperability and interface consistency, and provide developers with standard architectural tools, instruction sets, and development directions.
"Some people say the X86 era is over," Pat Kissingler said at the event. "I'm telling you, we're alive and well."
Kissinger said that the X86 architecture has been the infrastructure of the computing industry for decades, and is now undergoing a period of customization, scaling and scalability, which is one of the most important innovation moments of the X86 architecture.
Lenovo has joined the group as a founding member. "Dr. Su and I thought now was the perfect time to announce this at the Lenovo event and invite other companies to join the panel with Intel, AMD and Lenovo," Kissinger said.
"This will be the biggest industrial revolution we've ever seen," Huang said, adding that the artificial intelligence industry has taken a long time to be created by the industry, it's extremely complex, and the future on top of the computer is a large language model, which may be the new operating system for artificial intelligence work.
In the early stages of the new computing revolution, "the best thing that vendors can do is accelerate the road map," Huang says. When performance is doubled, tripled or even more times, "we can effectively reduce the cost and energy consumption of AI, while increasing the revenue capacity of AI."
Lenovo has always regarded the ability of the local end-to-side model as an important factor that distinguishes AI PC products. At today's press conference, Lenovo further amplified the role of the end-to-side model, treating the AI NOW personal agent running on it as the first stage for users to achieve personal AI.
